Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) as well as Chris Watson (born in Paris). At the age of five years old, she moved to Oxfordshire and enrolled at the Dragon School. When she was six years old, Emma realized she would like to be an actor and for a number of years she studied at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school where she studied performing and singing. At the age of 10, she had appeared and played as the main character in several Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 adaptation to J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was published in 1999. Agents for casting found Emma through her Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe that they had all been through eight consecutive auditions. Emma's first appearance in a film was in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. This film was 2001's highest production, and it broke records during the opening day and first weekend. Critics gave high praise to the film, and especially those who were young. The Daily Telegraph in Britain and the Daily Telegraph in America, widely read the newspaper, described her performance as outstanding. Emma got five nominations in recognition of her impressive performance. Later, she won the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress in the Film.
